Patron Barcode Replacement

For any problems in using this procedure, contact Joan Martine, Firestone Circulation.

  • Search for the patron by name.  Verify the institution ID number (on front of ID card below patron's name) to be sure you have selected the correct patron.
  • From the menu bar select Patron>Edit patron.
    • If the patron is a new student or new employee:
      • Select the "Active" barcode segment on the right side of the Edit Patron Record window.
      • Scan the barcode into the blank field.
    • For all other patrons:
      • On the right side of the Edit Patron Record window, click on Barcode <new> in red letters.
      • From the Patron Group drop-down list select the appropriate category. Consult Patron Registration Form if unsure of category.
      • Click on the Patron Barcode box and scan or type in the new barcode.  If you type in the barcode, click on Save.
  • System will respond, "Patron record has been altered. Save changes?"  Click on Yes.
  • System will then ask you to "invalidate the existing barcode by selecting an appropriate status".  Select Lost from the drop down box and click on OK.
  • On the right panel of the Edit patron window, there should now be a listing for the invalid barcode as Lost and for the new barcode as Active. To verify this you can click on each listing and the barcode will appear on the left panel.
  • The new barcode should now be ready to use.

Be aware that the expiration and purge dates have not been altered by this procedure.  If these are incorrect, you will need to edit them by clicking on the Name tab of the Edit Patron window and changing the dates.

Note:

  • Expiration Date for ALL faculty, staff and students should be 10/31/06. Seniors expiration date is 5/18/05. (Access Office cards and Carrel cards will have other expiration dates)
  • Purge Date should have the real expiration date from the ID card.
