Superseded volumes
NOTE: Adding volumes which supersede other volumes is frequently complex. In confusing situations, consult the Team Leader.

New volumes which supersede previously cataloged volumes should be treated like other added volumes with the following provisions:

  • In most cases it will be unnecessary to update either the summary holdings or the contents note. Other descriptive elements may require adjustment.
  • The new volumes should be added as with an identifying element, usually the date, in the corresponding item record.

      e.g. Item record: vol.6:1990

The superseded volume(s) should be retrieved and sent for withdrawal unless the set is located in the Reference Room (DR), Social Science Reference Center (SSRC), or a branch library, in which case the location is responsible for withdrawing superseded volumes.
