Definition

For Technical Services processing purposes, a newspaper is defined as any continuing serial appearing in newsprint which is not permanently retained in paper format.

Many newspapers are retained temporarily for varying lengths of time and then discarded. Other newspapers are retained permanently, but in microform only.

Cataloging for print copies of a newspaper which are not retained should follow the Brief cataloging guidelines. Example of location and "call number" treatment are included in those instructions.

Order Division Points

  • Newspapers (as defined above) do not have a flatfile or acquisition record and are NOT checked in.
