We will henceforth follow LCRI 2.7B18 as written, which means giving contents notes for 12 or fewer works in a collection. However, with a view toward restricting the number of formal contents notes (505's) we provide we will interpret strictly the phrase "does not adequately cover the contents of the item" found in section 5 of the RI.
If, in a one-volume collection containing no more than 12 titles, the title and statement of responsiblity convey the general drift of the contents, we will not provide a contents note; we will though, if the user would be left insiginificant doubt as to the nature of the book's contents.
Evelyn Waugh : new directions [contains 7 essay on Waugh].
No 505, because the title and subtitle are adequate.
Special applications [contains 3 essays on nuclear magnetic resonance].
Provide 505, because the title does not indicate the contents.
This procedure applies equally to original and member copy records.
