Determining Whether a Microform Guide Should be Handled as Accompanying Material or a Separate Publication

In past procedures, the only method used when a guide accompanied a microform was to treat it as a separate publication.

  • When the guide has a separate publisher, and/or is written before or after the publication of the microform to describe the contents of the collection being reproduced, use the procedure for separate publications.

  • More commonly, when the guide is issued by the microform publisher, and describes the microform version of the collection being reproduced, use the procedure for accompanying material.
