Searching
Searching is the most important step in establishing series. You must
search to see if the series is already established, as well as searching
for conflicts with other series/serial/corporate name headings
in the NAF and in the bib files.
Searching strategy:
- For series first issued after 1980:
- Search AACR2 forms in the authority file under title, personal
name and corporate name
- If not established, search the books and serials files for series
and/or collected set records (bookset or serial). Remember you're
looking for conflicts as well as for the series itself.
- Establish the series
- For series first issued before 1981:
- Search AACR2 forms in the authority file under title, personal
name, and corporate name
- If not established, search the books and serials files for series
and/or collected set records. Search also under pre-AACR2 possibilities
for choice of entry. (Consult Authorities Coordinator for assistance.)
- Establish the series
