Slavic Cataloging Manual: ATA Cataloging Procedures

• Open NOTIS session.
  Search for duplicate
  Look for records with the same:
  Title (245)
  Author (100)
  Publication information (260)
  Edition statement (250)
  Number of pages (300 ‡a)
  If you suspect that the item is a duplicate of something we already have, or adds to a bookset or serial, set it aside.
  • If the item is not a duplicate, continue.

• Search RLIN for Copy.
  If there is copy, create a Tempo 1 record and choose to PUT records in the following order:
  1. LC 9110 Full-Level copy
  2. PCC records
  3. CUBG, CTYA, CTYG, NYCG, NHDG
  4. Anything else
  Continue with Holdings.

  If there is no copy, continue.

• Create NOTIS record
  In NOTIS, click "fix" on poppad, then click "var".
  An empty form will appear.

  020 : : ‡a The ISBN number, if it is available 037 : : ‡a ATA (number) (as [year] [batch], [invoice]) e.g. In the book, there will be the form: ATA 166, 271 Input as: 1997-4, 166, 271 If there is no ATA number in the book, skip this part. 100 :1 : First author on the title page (if there is one) Always enter the form as Last name, First name. Check names in NAF 245 :00: ‡a Main title. ‡b Subtitle (if any) 250 : : ‡a Edition statement if it is readily available. 260 : : ‡a 1st place of publication ‡b1st publisher, ‡c Date. 300 : : ‡a Number of pages. 490 :0 : ‡a Series (if any) 700 :1 : Additional names on title page (if any) up to three. If necessary, add the following fields: If you can't figure out which is the title, choose one for the 245 and enter the other into: 246 :30: Any additional titles If there is other information you are unsure about, enter it into a 500 note. 500 : : General note

  Go to Copy Holdings Record

  1. Enter "hldg"
  2. Look at the back of the title page. If it says:
     Nothing press FL on the poppad
     Annex press AL on the poppad
     Slav press SL on the poppad

  Create Item record.

  1. Enter citm 1
  2. Wand in the barcode.

Barcode Placement

Write into the gutter:

1521	ATA [year] [batch], [invoice]	NOTIS record number
	This should be the same as the O37 field in the record
