But in the "List of Regions and Countries in One Alphabet," Russia and Russia (Federation) are both assigned the cutter number .R8, while Soviet Union remains as .S65.
Therefore, in these areas, items on the Russian Empire and Russia (Federation) are classed together, while the Soviet Union is classed separately.
In the "Tables of Geographical divisions," the Soviet Central Asian republics are now classed under Asia, far away from their former area.

The class numbers for Russia/Soviet Union/Former Soviet republics: HC337 (economic conditions by republic) and HC338 (economic conditions by city) have all changed, but HC336.9 (by region) is still valid.
HC336.9 will now be used only for areas that cover more than a single republic. Everything else will go into the new numbers, even defunct administrative divisions of the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union.
Examples:
Bessarabia (Moldova and Ukraine) will go into HC336.9+
but
Siberia (Russia) and Olonetskaia guberniia (R.S.F.S.R.) will go into HC340.12.Z7+
