ISBN (020)

Before 1988, Soviet imprints had no ISBN's.

  • Sometimes in books from the former Soviet Union, there is a statement attached to an ISBN.

This shows that the ISBN belongs to the second factory producing this book and is not an edition statement. After the fall of communism, paper became short of supply and many times it took multiple factories to produce a single print run of a book.
