Macedonia

Valid headings: The heading Macedonia represents the ancient kingdom that eventually fell to the Romans, and was later held by the Turks until 1912, when it was divided among Bulgaria, Serbia and Greece. Today, Macedonia is a region divided among these countries and is not a jurisdiction.

Former subdivision practice for Macedonia (Republic) followed the present practice for Serbia, i.e., all indirect subdivision went through Yugoslavia, while Macedonia was retained as a qualifier.

Former Practice:

Now that Macedonia (Republic) is an independent country, geographic subdivision follows the example of Russia (Federation): (Republic) drops as a qualifier, but is retained for indirect subdivision:

Present Practice:

Catalog maintenance was completed in mid-1994.
