Shelflisting for Languages with a Single Cutter Number

Many of the languages of the former Soviet Union have retained a single cutter number and the classification of these items can become quite difficult. Guidance should be sought in the LC shelflist, where there are cards providing the classification scheme for many authors, but lacking this, the following table may serve as an example when determining our own scheme.

PK9201.A99S48-489=Shamkhalov, Magomed.
.48 + date=Collected and selected works
.482-4829 + date=Collected and selected translations
e.g. .4824=German
.4827= Russian
.483-4859=Separate works
.486 + date=Autobiography
.487 + date=Letters
.488-489=Biography and criticism

This basic table is not used for every author by LC, but it seems to be one of the simplest to follow.
