Authorities Committee

Authorities Committee Overview

The Authorities Committee is responsible for the NACO component of PCC and consists of members drawn from the cataloging units. There are currently 5 Committee members--3 are rotating positions, and 2 are non-rotating. The non-rotating members are:

Rex Hatfield, Authorities Coordinator
Joyce Bell, Stellvertreter

Other components of the PCC program are handled separately by their respective coordinators:

SACO Coordinator, Pat Gibney
BIBCO Coordinator, Joyce Bell

Ongoing authorities work:

  • Reviewing and producing name and series authority records created by Princeton
  • Quality control of headings in the catalog
  • Investigating and resolving problems with authority records, and with headings in the database

Special projects:

The Authorities Committee is also called upon for authority-related projects. These projects have included:

  • Updating incorrect subject headings reported by Voyager
  • OCLC recon quality review
  • Reporting on the state of headings in our catalog

Additional activities:

Other work carried out by the PCC Coordinators include processing 053 requests, resolving conflict reports from LC, quality review of Princeton's BIBCO contributions, sending out announcements of updates relating to authorities issues, providing training, and keeping the authorities documentation up-to-date.
