Princeton University Library Human Resources

The Library Management Group serves as a Library forum for the discussion of substantive issues affecting the library community. It participates in strategic planning and in shaping Library policies in order to help lead change in the Library. It defines key issues, sets the agenda for deliberation, and forms task forces to study and report on specific issues. It also initiates implementation plans and disseminates information about its activities throughout the Library. The Group operates in an environment of respect, trust, open dialog, and collaboration that is also a model for interaction among all library staff.

Working guidelines are as follows:

The University Librarian, as convener of the Group, makes the level of involvement and authority of the Group clear with regard to any issue under discussion.
The members of the Group acknowledge that the role of the Group may change from one issue to another, but that role is always stated in a formal way at the outset of discussion.
The decision-making model for each issue is agreed upon before discussion begins.
In the interest of maximum participation and contribution, hierarchical relationships that exist between members are suspended in the context of the group discussion.
Specifics of discussions are confidential to the Group.
Summary notes of each meeting will be kept to aid in follow-up on action items.
