Description: : Princeton University Library is seeking an innovative service oriented manager, with strong supervisory and communication skills and a library background, to lead our newly formed Approvals and Copy Cataloging Team (ACCT). ACCT is a unit of the Library's Catalog Division specially created to provide the most timely receipt and bibliographic control of new acquisitions possible in order to promote the Library's strategic goal of providing optimal delivery of services to our students, faculty and other patrons. The Team is staffed by nine full time paraprofessional library assistants augmented by a varying number of student workers and is responsible for receiving and cataloging new holdings acquired on the library's largest approval plans. Workflow in the unit includes receiving new book acquisitions, creating purchase orders to generate payment, cataloging receipts with copy derived from source records of other libraries as well as original cataloging for selected categories of material, and related cataloging authority work within scope. The Team is responsible for management of the cataloging backlog and the cataloging of titles from the backlog in areas of the Team's cataloging and language expertise. The Team is also assigned an array of special cataloging tasks, such as original cataloging of Princeton theses. Members of the Team are proficient in both the acquisitions and cataloging modules of the of the Library's Voyager integrated library management system. The Leader of the Approvals and Copy Cataloging Team reports to the Leader of Cataloging Unit II.

Responsibilities: This position is responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating performance of members of the Approvals and Copy Cataloging Team. The ACCT Leader must be able to formulate goals, motivate staff, establish priorities, assign work and monitor workflow and work quality. The ACCT Leader develops and revises procedures in response to changing priorities and system functionality, and serves as a resource to the Team's staff facilitating their work by answering questions and resolving complex problems. The ACCT Leader works closely with management staff of the Technical Services Department to coordinate the Team's priorities and keep abreast of current practices, and with other library management and staff as necessary in performance of the Team's responsibilities and functions, and represents the Team in departmental and Library meetings and forums as necessary.

Qualifications: Required: A minimum of three years of relevant supervisory experience in a large academic library setting or the equivalent of a scale and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the likelihood of success in the position offered. At least 2 years acquisitions or cataloging experience. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Good general computer skills and reading knowledge of at least one Western European language.

Strongly Preferred: Experience with the Voyager integrated library management system or an equivalent system. Experience working and supervising in a unionized environment.

Preferred: Working knowledge of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2 nd ed. (AACR2), and Library of Congress Subject Headings and Classification. Familiarity with the MARC format.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year, plus eleven (11) paid holidays. Health care insurance, and disability insurance and other benefits are available.
