The Princeton University Library comprises a large central library and 15 specialized libraries that are heavily used by an academic community that includes 6,400 students and 1,100 faculty members. To support the diverse needs of its users, the Library holds some six million printed volumes, ranging from incunabula to current imprints, and provides access to many other records of human knowledge, such as ancient papyri and cylinder seals, nineteenth-century literary manuscripts, and recently produced electronic databases and journals. The Library employs more than 300 professional and support personnel, complemented by a large student and hourly workforce. Description: Princeton University Library seeks an energetic and forward-thinking library professional to develop strong print and digital collections and to provide innovative and effective user services in support of teaching and learning in mathematics and physics. This Librarian will provide reference services and group and individual instruction in the use of print and digital resources for all levels of users and work with the faculty to provide library instruction support for courses and projects. Excellent communication skills are a high priority. The Librarian will work closely with faculty and students of the Mathematics and Physics Departments. These departments are world renowned for their excellence and leadership in core areas of mathematics and physics. They are building strength in newer areas such as biophysics, materials science and mathematical computing, and interaction between them and other departments and programs is critical. Major interdisciplinary research and teaching initiatives will bring this librarian into contact with faculty, students and librarians connected with the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics (PACM); Princeton Institute for Computational Science and Engineering (PICSciE), Princeton Institute for Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM); Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics; the Chemistry, Molecular Biology, and Astrophysics Departments; Plasma Physics Laboratory; Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs; and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The Librarian will be part of the Planning Team for the Peter B. Lewis Library, a combined science library, due to open in spring 2007. The Science Library will incorporate the combined Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences Libraries' collections, the Fine Library mathematics, physics and statistics collections, and the Map Collection and Digital Map GIS Center. It will be an exciting, technologically advanced facility both physically and in the range of services it provides. The Mathematics and Physics Librarian reports to the Head of the Science and Technology Libraries and is a member of the Special Libraries Department.

Qualifications:
Required:
MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics or a related area and/or relevant academic or special library experience. At least two years of professional work in the physical sciences. Experience with developing print and digital collections and managing an acquisitions budget. Knowledge of the mathematics and physics literature including print and electronic reference sources. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently. Demonstrated success reaching out to and working collaboratively with all levels of users and staff. Enthusiasm for planning and implementing creative and effective user services. Ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year, plus eleven (11) paid holidays.
