The collection consists of loose material removed from books in the
Sinclair Hamilton Collection of American Illustrated Books: handwritten
notes by Sinclair Hamilton; correspondence between the publisher and the
artist of the book; note cards with dealer descriptions of the books; correspondence
between Sinclair Hamilton and book dealers, or other institutions that
own other editions of the book; ephemera; and some original drawings.
The material is housed in two archival boxes. Box 1 includes items removed
from the first supplement, arranged by Hamilton First Supplement sequential
number. Box 2 includes items removed from the second supplement, arranged
by Hamilton Second Supplement sequential number.
The following added entries have been assigned to this collection to
highlight significant sources (other than the main entry), subjects, and
forms of the collection's materials. Where possible Library of Congress
Subjects Headings have been used, and the forms of names reflect international
cataloging standards. As a result, all of these entries may be searched
in the Library's online catalog, the Department's database (MASC), and
other bibliographic catalogs, to find related material.
