Plan Your Getaway at Firestone

Whether it is Washington, D.C. or Kandy, Sri Lanka, Library patrons may now plan their trips with Firestone’s new Travel Guides collection.  This pilot collection, developed in the spirit of the popular Dixon leisure reading collection, offers current Lonely Planet and, soon to come, Rough Guides travel titles to all areas covered by both publishers.

The collection has its own discrete shelving section in Firestone, located just outside the entrance to the DeLong Reading Room on the first floor, and is organized alphabetically according to place or destination.  The guides may also be found through Books+ or the Main Catalog and each title circulates for a four-week period.

The Library will also continue to collect thematic travel guides, such as art and architecture guides or historic trail guides, to name just a few, but those will be part of other collections within the Library system.  And if you’re looking for those classic Baedecker guides, head to the Firestone stacks.

As a pilot project, the Library will monitor the use of the collection to determine whether or not the section should be maintained if not expanded. Feedback is welcome and may be directed to Sandy Rosenstock.  Bon Voyage!
