If you will be a senior, graduate student or faculty member in Anthropology, Classics, Comparative Literature, Economics, English, French & Italian, German, History, History of Science, Near Eastern Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Religion, Sociology, Spanish & Portuguese, Slavic Languages, or WWS, you are eligible for a carrel in Firestone Library. Faculty members from other departments must apply in the Access Office. The carrel application is available at: http://libweb5.princeton.edu/carrels/application.aspx.
In addition to the two person carrels on 3rd Floor, A Floor, B Floor and C Floor, there are also 6 four person carrels, 3 five person carrels, 3 six person carrels, and 1 seven person carrel on B Floor. When you fill out your application, it is important to list the person(s) with whom you would like to share the carrel. In order to be placed with a specific carrel mate, both you and your carrel mate must name each other in your applications. If you list someone as your carrel mate on your application, and that person does not list you on their application, you will not be placed together. If you do not list a specific carrel mate, it is assumed that you will share a carrel with whomever is assigned.
Carrels are assigned according to eligible department, application date, and applicant's status. First priority will be given to faculty, seniors, and graduate students in their final year. You will be notified by email when your carrel is assigned. After you receive notification, it is very important that you come to the Access Office to sign the paperwork and pick up either your carrel combination or key by the date specified in the notification. Carrels not signed for by the date specified will be reassigned. In addition, carrels which do not show signs of use, may be reassigned.
If you have any questions about carrels or the application process, please contact the Access Office at 258 - 5737 or access@princeton.edu.
