Video Reserves

Faculty can place any title in the video collection on reserve.  Only the person who placed the video on reserve is allowed to remove this title from Video Library premises.  Other patrons who wish to view a film that is on reserve may do so by viewing the film in the Video Library but they will not be permitted to borrow it.   If the instructor sends another individual is to pick up a video they have put on reserve, the name of this person must be sent by email to mclaugh@princeton.edu or called in to the circulation desk at 609-258-1290.

Submit requests for video reserves via email to VideoLib@princeton.edu or Barbara McLaughlin, mclaugh@princeton.edu.  Include the course number, name of the instructor, title of the film along with the call number and if subtitles are needed. Items placed on reserve that are not currently owned by the University will be purchased if necessary.  If the film needs to be purchased please supply the directors name and link to where the film can be ordered.

Other items, including personal video materials for instruction, may be placed on temporary reserve in the Video Library.  Please drop off any personal items at the Video Library circulation desk.

Video Reserves for Fall 2017/Spring 2018 Courses

Requests for video materials to be held on course reserve should be emailed to VideoLib@princeton.edu or placed through Firestone Library's Online Reserve Request System. Detailed instructions for using this system can be found on the ORRS Instruction Sheet, http://libweb5.princeton.edu/ORRS/docs/ORRS Instructions.pdf. You will need to log into ORRS using your netid.

Video Streaming

Video materials placed on reserve are generally made available to students of the course via our streaming service as well as physical reserve in the Video Library. Students registered in these classes may view assigned video materials at any time during the semester through the Blackboard course page while on campus.

Assigned audio and video materials can be accessed through the Blackboard course page and are made available only to the participants of the course and for the duration of the course. Streaming video is also restricted to computers on the campus network. Videos may stream properly over wireless but good performance cannot be guaranteed. For best performance, please connect to the campus network with an Ethernet cable or use a campus cluster computer. Note that Firefox is the preferred browser. Please report any problems to mclaugh@princeton.edu (include location of PC).

Requests to have films digitized for class can be sent directly to Barbara McLaughlin, mclaugh@princeton.edu, or entered into the library ORRS system. If you have any questions regarding the video streaming service or would like more information please call Barbara at 609-258-0739.
