A new era begins at Princeton University Library; Firestone Library transformed into state-of-the-art space after 10-year renovation

In spring 2019, Princeton University completed the 10-year renovation of the main campus library, the Harvey S. Firestone Memorial Library, and ushered in a new era for research and scholarship at Princeton.

In summer 2019, three students from Princeton and Lawrenceville high schools - Jayvee Lam, left, Nabia Evans, center, and Toniyah Harris, right - interned at Princeton University Library in the Library's first-ever summer internship program, learning more about library work and research as well as preparing for their professional and academic futures.

New integrated search enhances access to Library and Museum collections

Princeton University Library and the Princeton University Art Museum launched an integrated discovery capability allowing users to search both institutions’ collections from a unified location. Visitors conducting searches on the Library website now see objects from the Museum’s collections included in the search results, along with other various topic-related Library holdings such as books, journals, archives, maps and geographic collections, digital collections, and databases.

The exhibition "Gutenberg & After: Europe's First Printers 1450-1470" uniquely told the story of the two decades that transformed text production and distribution across Europe, and it was the first exhibition of its kind.

As the world mourned the passing of Toni Morrison, Nobel Laureate in Literature and Robert F. Goheen Professor in the Humanities, Emeritus, at Princeton University, Princeton University Library presented in her memory a selection of first editions, translations, corrected typescripts, and a handwritten first draft of her novels, open through spring 2020.

New campus-wide service will enhance access to research data

With the goal of making the results of research and scholarship more accessible, Princeton launched a new service, the Princeton Research Data Service, to provide infrastructure and training to University researchers on how best to format and curate data in ways that facilitate long-term storage and discovery.

As Princeton University Library (PUL) increasingly works to ensure further access to diverse intellectual and cultural research for not only Princeton's scholars but also national and international researchers, a librarian at PUL began building a collection of local history from different regions across the United States. Established by Steve Knowlton, the Librarian for History and African American Studies, the project aims to help fill a current gap in collection development created by a steady decline of local library budgets.
