Princeton University Library (PUL) is looking forward to welcoming students, faculty, and staff to campus for the fall term. Much preparation and planning is underway!

What to expect this fall at PUL:

Access to Library spaces

Princeton University students, faculty, researchers, and staff with active NetIDs and card access to University buildings may freely enter Library locations to study or browse the stacks. Reservations are no longer required to enter; however, the following services continue to require a reservation so that staff are available to assist you:

• Firestone microforms ([email protected]) 
• Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology (temporarily located in Firestone on the C Floor)
• PUL MakerSpace
• Licensed database terminals

Hours

Regular hours are back for fall!

All Library locations will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 6. All campus libraries will have normal fall hours the weekend before Labor Day.

Research Collections and Preservation Consortium (ReCAP)

PUL is in the process of adding access to millions of Harvard items through the ReCAP shared collections system. An announcement is planned for release in the coming weeks.

Book pick-up service

The popular book pick-up service will continue this fall. The service allows faculty, students, and staff with active PUIDs to request books online and pick them up at on-campus Library locations.

Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology

Marquand Library has temporarily moved to two spaces on the C-Floor of Firestone Library with the stacks collection temporarily stored offsite and remaining non-circulating. Patrons may request items for viewing or scanning via the PUL online catalog. Consultation of items is only available in the C-Floor reading rooms. Marquand rare books (and all oversized folios and elephants) are available for consultation in the Firestone Special Collections Reading Room via online request. Marquand's fall hours will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. For more information, please email [email protected] or click here.

Reserves

PUL offers Electronic Reserve service for journal articles and book chapters. We also offer print and/or digital reserve for the entire book. Instructors can make the requests for the course reserve materials from the Canvas course website, by clicking the "Reserves" link. Students can access the reserve materials from the same link (Canvas-Reserve). For more information about reserves, please visit Course Reserves or send an email to [email protected].

In-house digitization service

The in-house digitization service allows Princeton faculty, students, and staff to request digitization of articles or chapters in print book collections.

For digitization of Special Collections materials found in the Library catalog or Finding Aids database, you can place a request through the Special Collections Ask Us! form.

Remote consultations with specialists

Research consultations with subject specialists will be available in person beginning Monday, August 30. Consultations can also still be held by email, phone, or Zoom. Check out PUL's Meet Our Specialists videos!

Printing and Scanning

Printing and scanning is available at every Library location. Database stations are available by reservation through the online reservation system.

Tiger Tea Room

The Tiger Tea Room, located on the first floor of Firestone, will reopen on September 1.

Health and safety protocols

Social distancing is no longer required in Library spaces. Wearing face coverings is required for all Library patrons at all times, including faculty, students, and staff during classroom use. We encourage frequent hand washing.

Visitors to PUL

PUL will continue to limit access to Library locations to Princeton University faculty, students, and staff with activated card access to buildings until further notice. For patrons affiliated with a member of University faculty, graduate student, or staff member, a small number of exceptions may be possible on a case-by-case basis. To submit a request for consideration, please visit the EHS visitor page and complete the form linked on the right. The Library will need to approve this form, not the sponsor's department head. Send completed forms to [email protected] and include the collections to be accessed by the visitor. Allow three business days for review of requests. Learn more at: PUL visitor policy.

Food and beverages

No food is permitted in Library spaces. This will be strictly enforced to ensure adherence to health and safety protocols. Beverages with lids are permitted in most Library spaces, not including Special Collections and Marquand. Learn more about PUL's Food, Drink & Cell Phone policy.
