With the help of collection items from Princeton University Library (PUL), visitors to the Morgan Library will be able to experience James Joyce’s transformation from lyric poet to modernist genius at Morgan’s Library’s “One Hundred Years of James Joyce” exhibit. 

On display now through October 2, 2022, the exhibit highlights the people in Joyce’s life - the writers, critics, artists, and family - who influenced his personal and professional growth. 

PUL lent the Morgan Library a painting of Sylvia Beach, the writer and bookseller who was responsible for publishing Ulysses in 1922, as well as the two-sided sign that sat in front of her storehouse. Created in 1923 by Paul Emile Becat, the portrait normally resides on the first floor of Firestone Library near the John Foster Dulles Reading Room.
