Yuan Li, Scholarly Communications Librarian

Since 1991, CALA has given the President’s Award “to recognize and to honor an individual, group, or organization who possesses a philosophy of dedication, quality of service, and professional integrity for his/her/their significant contributions to the library community,” according to CALA’s awards site.

Li’s award highlights her role as Chair of the Sally Tseng Professional Development Grant Committee for 2021-22, through which she supports program and research goals of her fellow CALA members. “Sally Tseng’s Grant is one of the most highly regarded endowed awards at CALA,” Li said, and is named for the former CALA president and executive director known for establishing one of the first CALA scholarship and research grants in the 1980s.

Originally joining CALA in 2010, Li is now a lifetime member of the Association and has served in roles including the Board of Directors, President of Northeast Chapter, and chair/member of various committees. “Supported by CALA, I was able to travel and present at conferences, participate in leadership training programs, network with library and thought leaders, collaborate on projects and research with colleagues across institutions, and serve on committees and the board to give back to the community,” Li said.
