Nearly 70 undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff signed up for library cards with Princeton Public Library (PPL) on Tuesday, October 3 in a co-hosted event with Princeton University Library (PUL).

Sonja Vloeberghs,Tiffany Fang, Émilie Lopez, and Kim Dorman from PPL worked with Jen Hunter and Carol Houghton at PUL to set up a mobile library card sign-up station in Firestone Library. They talked with passersby about PPL’s various resources and services, and issued cards on the spot. Kelechi Ukaoma, a member of the Class of 2025, enthusiastically approached friends and classmates, as they came through the turnstiles, drawing them to the sign-up table.

In addition to being able to borrow items from the public library’s print and media collections, card holders also have access to a Library of Things and PPL’s museum pass program.

Community connection is a shared tenet in both PPL and PUL’s vision statements. The sign-up event was the result of a collective and collaborative effort between staff at both PPL and PUL over the past couple of months. “It was a really wonderful outreach opportunity,” said Dorman. “We would love to come back and do this again!” added Vloeberghs.

All Princeton University students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a free library card at PPL that allows them to use the library’s collections, resources, and services. Partners and family members are also eligible if they live in the Princeton municipality.
