For permission to film or photograph inside any Princeton University Library location, please contact the Office of Library Communications. Kindly note, to minimize disruption for faculty, students, and researchers in Library spaces, we may not be able to accommodate a request. Library Buildings Individuals wishing to photograph or film library exteriors must request permission through the University's Office of Communications, often in conjunction with the Office of Conference and Event Services. For more information about filming on campus, please contact the Office of Communications. Restricted Images Photographers and film crews should be aware that full images or recognizable portions of Lewis Library are considered restricted and are not permitted to be used for any purpose other than University business. Special Collections All requests for filming or photography in Special Collections spaces must go through the Office of Library Communications.(Special Collections includes all spaces in the Special Collections Suite in Firestone Library, the Cotsen Gallery and the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library.)Photography and Filming in Special Collections Reading RoomsNo filming of any kind is permitted in the reading room.Photography is only permitted for collection materials according to the reading room guidelines. Photography of the reading room itself, other researchers, staff, and selfies is prohibited.Requests for Filming or Photography in Special Collections Spaces Outside of the Reading RoomThe spaces in Special Collections are reserved for the purposes of serving the academic community at Princeton and the larger scholarly community who conduct research within our collections. To ensure that we can offer the classroom and meeting spaces required throughout the semester, we limit their non-academic use during the school year. Filming in Special Collections, no matter how large or small the production, requires the use of our finite resources including space and staff time. It can also be highly disruptive to others who are using Special Collections for classes and research. For these reasons, the following are strict guidelines for filming or photography in Special Collections spaces outside of the reading room:Requests to film in Special Collections will only be considered if the intent is to use Special Collections materials. If not, we suggest working with the Office of Library Communications to find another space within the library.Requests will only be considered if they directly support the library.Photography and filming in storage areas is not permitted.During the academic year, requests to film in Special Collections that take up classroom space and staff time will only be considered on Fridays. You can direct any clarifying questions to the Office of Library Communications. For Fridays during the academic year, and the rest of the week outside of the academic year, including breaks between semesters, filming will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and may be denied if it is determined the filming will be too disruptive to the daily functions of the department.
