Bio/Description

Jon Stroop came to Princeton in 2005 as the Assistant Music Librarian and held several roles in Library IT between 2007 and his appointment to the Library leadership Team (now Library Strategy Council) in 2016. He was promoted to Deputy Dean of Libraries in 2021. Before coming to Princeton, Jon was a cataloger at the Julliard School and an associate editor at Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (aka RILM Abstracts). From 2013 through 2021, he co-edited the International Image Interoperability Framework suite of specifications, which fundamentally changed how libraries present digitized resources.

Jon’s current portfolio includes Assessment and User Experience, Cataloging and Metadata Services, Library IT, Library Physical Planning and Operations, Organizational Effectiveness, and, in an acting capacity, Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology and the East Asian Library.

Jon has degrees in music from The Hartt School and the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Pratt Institute. He has presented invited papers and workshops at the British Library, Vatican Library, Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery, Trinity College, Queensland University of Technology, and numerous other venues. Jon also serves on the Board of Directors for RILM Abstracts.
