mods:subject [Optional]

Local Practices and Interpretations

mods:subject is used to encode subject headings formulated according to the source specified in the authority

attribute.

Supported Descendant Elements and Attributes

@authority

[Required] The values currently used are "lcsh", "aat", and "local".

The elements below should be used in the same order as the LCSH subject string. See equivalent MARC terms following the element names:

mods:topic

650 ‡a; ‡x

mods:geographic

651 ‡a; ‡z

mods:temporal

‡y

mods:titleInfo

In this instance the titleInfo element should not have a type attribute. [see under mods:titleInfo]

mods:name

In this instance the name element should not include a role subelement. [see under mods:name]

mods:genre

‡v Note: 655 and other genre headings (as opposed to subdivisions) go into the main genre element.
