Workplace Injuries and Illnesses (needs updating)

In all cases of injury or workplace illness, the supervisor should complete:

  1. Princeton University Accident/Near Miss Investigation Form
  2. Submit it within 72 hours to Maria DeFalco who will forward it to the Office of Environmental Health and Safety. Keep a copy for the departmental file.

  3. Library Incident Report. Submit it as soon as possible to Maria DeFalco.

Injuries

University policy states that when a staff member becomes injured in the Library and requires medical attention, the person should go to Employee Health Services at McCosh Health Center.

If the person is seriously injured, Library Security should be called:

Firestone: call Library Security at 8-3221 and they will call Public Safety.
Branches: call Public Safety directly at 8-3134.

Public Safety will determine whether the person can be transported in a Public Safety vehicle, or whether an ambulance is required for transport to the hospital. If the staff member is required to go to the hospital, another staff person or supervisor should accompany the person. Public Safety does not want to abandon the person at the hospital, but they cannot wait with them. Staff should not transport other staff to the hospital in their own vehicles.

Illnesses

An employee who feels seriously ill should NOT go to Employee Health Services.

Firestone: call Library Security at 8-3221 and they will call Public Safety.
Branches: call Public Safety directly at 8-3134.

The staff person will be transported to the hospital only if Public Safety determines it is necessary, and they will summon the rescue squad. Otherwise, employees should call their own doctors and ask what to do if they feel ill at work.
