14.  Karen Hesse.
Jon J. Muth, illustrator.
Come on, Rain!
New York: Scholastic Press, 1999.

Hesse’s prose poem about a little girl waiting for a summer storm to break the sweltering heat is not really about swimming. But what child living in the city or suburbs doesn't remember putting on a bathing suit and running out to cool off in the downpour?

Before the birth of his son in the late 1990s, Jon J. Muth was a famous illustrator of comic books and graphic novels including Moonshadow by J. M. de Matteis, Dracula: A Symphony in Moonlight and Nightmares and an adaptation of Fritz Lang’s film M to his credit. You can see some examples of his work in these genres at Mars Import . Come on Rain! was his first picture book. For a short interview with this illustrator, visit Book Page. (Image Credits)
