Trial EPS China Statistics

From today until December 1 Princeton users have trial access to EPS China Statistics.

We are currently looking at different suppliers of statistical data from China to see which packages best support Princeton’s needs. As part of this we are currently having a trial of EPS China Statistics. This trial will run until December 1.

EPS China Statistics consists of 65 statistical datasets covering a wide range of topics from finances, over city statistics to tourism.

During the trial downloading of data (as Excel files) will not be possible. If after the trial Princeton decides to subscribe to the database that naturally would be possible in the future.

Any comments on the scope, usability, data and other aspects of the database would be very much welcome to jseufert@princeton.edu.

To enter the English version, please go to the website at http://www.epschinadata.com/ and click on the "Enter the Databases" button in the upper right corner.

To enter the Chinese version, Please go to the website at http://olap.epsnet.com.cn/ and click on the "进入数据库" button in the upper right corner.

Since this is only a trial and the database is not yet registered on the proxy server, please use Secure Remote Access (SRA/VPN) or use a computer that is connected to the university network to access the database (eduroam alone is not sufficient).

Other China related statistical resources we currently have access to are:

China Data Online

Comprehensive statistical and economic information of China in English.  The yearbook collection ends in 2011. For 2012+, use the China Statistical Bureau Website linked below. Select geo-coded data is contained in the Geo-Explorer I component.

China Statistical Yearbooks Database (CNKI)

Large selection of statistical data published by the Chinese government including census data. Chinese-language version offers more up-to-date and reliable results; best to use the yearbook navigation mode.  Includes national, provincial, city, and many topical yearbooks. Also see

China Data Insights.  This is a new menu for the CNKI Chinese Statistical Yearbooks database that gives access to the data by indicators rather than by published yearbook.  Click “Sign in” to be recognized as a Princeton user by IP.

CEIC

Provides macroeconomic and financial time series data on China (including subnational). Contains a wide range of data on topics including national accounts, government and public finance, demographic and labor markets, inflation, foreign trade, foreign direct investment, financial markets, and data on a variety of industry sectors.

Please connect to the campus network via SRA before utilizing this resource. It does not work with our standard EZproxy service.

Many yearbooks can be found in the East Asian Library.  Also see the China Statistical Bureau Website  (must use in Internet Explorer).

About Secure Remote Access (SRA)

The SRA service is managed by Princeton's Office of Information Technology (OIT) and requires installing and configuring software compatible with your computer's operating system. Instructions for Windows, OS X, Linux, and mobile devices are provided.
