Sandra Brooke to Huntington

Sandra Ludig Brooke

With sadness, we inform you of the resignation of Sandra Ludig Brooke, Librarian of the Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology. However, we are pleased and proud to announce that she has been appointed the Avery Director of the Library at The Huntington, Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.

At The Huntington, she will lead a staff of more than 70 as they embark on a transformative time. “Tremendous opportunities lie ahead for making our collections more discoverable, and more relevant, than ever before, and we look forward to Sandra and her very capable team leading the way forward,” stated The Huntington’s Interim President, Steve Hindle. The Huntington’s collections include 7 million manuscripts, 420,000 rare books, 275,000 reference books, and 1.3 million photographs, prints, and ephemera.

Sandy’s contributions and legacy overseeing Marquand for the past 10 years will leave an invaluable impact. When asked what she is most proud of from her time at Princeton, she immediately acknowledged her staff, describing them as having grown and developed into a sophisticated team, rising brilliantly to the hard work and challenges of developing unique and meaningful collections.

In addition to many other departments and groups at Princeton, Sandy has worked closely with the faculty of the Department of Art and Archaeology, the Princeton University Art Museum, and the Center for Digital Humanities. “I greatly value the relationships with colleagues at the Library and across the University. Without their enthusiasm and the University’s support, many of the extraordinary projects I’ve worked on would not have been possible.” Among her most distinguished is the Digital Cicognara Library project. Sandy is a founding member of the DCL and has been project leader since 2015. The Ditigal Cicognara Library project is an international, collaborative initiative to recreate in digital form the foundational art history library formed by Count Leopoldo Cicognara (1767-1834).

Sandy’s exceptional enthusiasm, accomplished leadership, and knowledgeable expertise will be very much missed.

Her last day will be December 4. We wish Sandy the best of luck in her new position.
