BorrowDirectBorrow Direct is a patron-initiated borrowing and lending service of physical books offered by Princeton University Library and twelve partner libraries--Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, and Yale. Circulation ServicesCirculation services include checking out materials, requesting materials from the stacks, requesting items from off-site storage, managing physical course reserves, and technology lending. CollectionsThe Princeton University Library collections are rich and diverse, with more than 7 million printed works, 5 million manuscripts, and 2 million non-print items including archival materials, maps, prints, coins, and incunabula. Extensive digital holdings are represented by primary sources, data, images, electronic databases, e-books and journals, music and audio files, and video. ComputersThe Library provides both wired computers in all library locations that connect to Library-licensed databases. We also offer laptop lending in some locations, as well as computers in labs that have specialized software. CopyrightWorking with the Office of General Counsel, the Scholarly Communication Office assists faculty and students with questions related to copyright (such as how to legally share your publications, how to retain some author rights when publishing, how to address creative commons), fair use, and permissions. Course ReservesThe Library's Course Reserves Service allows instructors to set aside books, films, or sound recordings for class use, or make articles or book excerpts electronically available through Canvas. Fine Collaboration HubThe Fine Collaboration Hub is a department neutral library space that can be reserved for presentations, workshops, collaborative work, club meetings, study groups, and more. Fine Visualization LabA lab with advanced visualization resources, including high-resolution screens, access to Linux, Windows, and Mac computers, touch-screen annotation capabilities, a document camera, and support for scientific visualization and geospatial codes. Firestone Memorial Library serves as the main library on campus and assumes primary responsibility for humanities and social sciences collections and specialized research support services. Interlibrary LoanInterlibrary Loan (ILL) provides academic materials not available at the University. Open Access FundThe Princeton Open Access (OA) fund aims to help Princeton authors, especially underrepresented groups, underwrite reasonable publication charges when publishing in fee-based OA publications when no other funding sources are available. Funding article charges removes barriers to open access publishing practices and promotes the value of OA to scholarship, research, and creative output. Open Access Publishing ProgramThe Princeton University Library Open Access Publishing Program (POAPP) provides a suite of services to help Princeton faculty, researchers, students, and staff create high quality, peer-reviewed, and open access scholarly publications. Open Access RepositoryOAR@Princeton provides a platform for collecting scholarly articles authored by Princeton University faculty members. Printing and ScanningAll locations of Princeton University Library offer printing those with a Princeton University Net ID. Scanning is available at each library location for all patrons. ReCAPThe Research Collections and Preservation Consortium (ReCAP) was created in 2000 to support its members' goals of preserving their library and archival collections, and making them available to researchers. The ReCAP facility consists of a preservation repository and resource sharing services, and is located on Princeton University's Forrestal Campus. ReCAP is jointly owned and operated by Columbia University, Harvard University, The New York Public Library and Princeton University. More than 18 million items are currently in ReCAP's care and they are used to fulfill approximately 200,000 requests for materials each year, from its partners and from libraries around the world.
