Housed within the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library, the Princeton University Archives consists of over 15,000 linear feet of materials including both paper and electronic records, as well as photographs and other audiovisual materials that document the history of Princeton University. The University Archives is also the repository for Princeton senior theses and doctoral dissertations.

While a large portion of the University Archives are open for research use, there may be some restrictions which are outlined on the Access Policy for University Archives Collections page.

Alexander Leitch’s A Princeton Companion (Princeton, New Jersey: Princeton University Press, 1978) contains biographies of University presidents, trustees, deans, noted alumni, and prominent professors. Other topics include academic department histories, athletics, campus buildings, research, and student activities. University members can access the ebook via our catalog.

The Princeton University Historical Photograph Collection database contains descriptive information on over 20,000 photographs found within the University Archives Historical Photograph Collection. You may conduct a keyword search to retrieve a listing of photographs that meet your criteria. Information returned will include a general description of the photograph along with pertinent details, such as dates, photographer, and image type, as well as the collection, box, and image number.
