Tigers in Picture Books

on display in the

If you were to go hunting for big cats in the research collection of the Cotsen Children's Library, chances are that you would find many more lions than tigers–for example, the King of Beasts in Aesop and Reynard the Fox, the Cowardly Lion in Baum's Wizard of Oz, or the lordly Aslan in the Chronicles of Narnia

But the tiger reigns here at Princeton, as the numerous sculptures on campus attest.  We hope you enjoy this tribute to Princeton's noble mascot in the many guises he has assumed in children's books from the Renaissance to the present day. And if you ever find yourself near Firestone Library, drop by the Cotsen gallery for a complimentary copy of our publications, Tigers and More Tigers, upon which this online exhibition was based.
