Collections with Divisional Holdings

  • American Civil Liberties Union Washington, D.C. Office Records

    Material in the two series includes correspondence, memoranda, telegrams, reports, legal briefs and pleadings, testimony, press releases, publications, and magazine and newspaper clippings. Series 1, Irving Ferman Records, contains more administrative documents than does Series 2, Lawrence Speiser Records, which consists largely of case files. Speiser's records also contain files that pre-date his position as director of the Washington, D.C. Office.Both series contain similar headings and subheadings.

  • American Civil Liberties Union Records: Subgroup 4

    These records document the work of the ACLU's national office in the areas of
    civil rights, children and women’s rights, freedom of speech (and all First
    Amendment questions), due process, the right to privacy, and church-state
    separation issues, among others, predominantly from 1970 to 2000. A large
    portion of the records are related to the numerous cases that ACLU was involved

    regional offices, and legal projects, with particular emphasis on the areas of civil
    rights, children and women's rights, freedom of speech (and all First Amendment

  • American Civil Liberties Union Records: Subgroup 2

    These Records document the activities of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in protecting individual rights between 1947 and 1995. The collection contains correspondence, clippings, court documents, memoranda, printed matter, minutes, reports, briefs, legal files, exhibit materials, and audio-visual materials.

  • American Civil Liberties Union Records: Subgroup 1, The Roger Baldwin Years

    The American Civil Liberties Union Records, The Roger Baldwin years, document the activities of the ACLU from 1917 through 1950. The files contain materials on conscientious objection, freedom of speech, academic and religious freedom, censorship, labor rights, the Espionage Act of 1917, political demonstrations, political propaganda, the Ku Klux Klan and other patrioteering organizations, mob violence, racism, lynching, and other civil liberty issues. Materials include correspondence and newspaper clippings.

  • American Association for the Advancement of the Humanities Records

    The AAAH’s records document the administration of the association and include correspondence, board minutes, financial records, and materials on Humanities Report. The records focus on fundraising and the membership of the association, and also include materials related to projects undertaken by the AAAH.   • Adlai E. Stevenson Papers

    The Adlai E. Stevenson Papers contain correspondence, speeches, writings, campaign materials, United Nations materials, subject files, personal files, scrapbooks, travel materials, photographs, and audiovisual materials. The correspondence is a particularly rich resource for documenting all aspects of Stevenson's life and career. Stevenson's two presidential campaigns and service to the United Nations in both the 1940s and early 1960s are also well-documented in the appropriate series.

  • Walter Murphy Papers

    This collection includes the records of Murphy's academic and literary work, including syllabi, research materials related to his novel The Vicar of Christ, correspondence, and subject files.

  • Thomas Klinkel Collection on George McGovern

    Consists of material collected by Thomas Klinkel relating to three George McGovern political campaigns in South Dakota. The majority of the collection refers to McGovern's 1972 presidential campaign and includes organizational charts, press releases, publications, reports, speeches, family and campaign photographs, slides of Vietnam, cassettes and tapes of speeches, radio and public service announcements, and campaign posters.
