Bianjiang lishi dili = Historical Geography of (China’s) Borderlands

The database collects full-text historical textual material on the Chinese borderlands dating from the Ming Dynasty to the Republic in the punctuated editions by Zhonghua shuju. It also gives access to Republican monographs, periodicals and government gazettes on the border regions.

Dissertation Abstracts (ProQuest Dissertations & Theses: Full Text)

Access to citations and abstracts for every title in the Dissertation Abstracts database. Dissertations written from 1997 forward are available full text with select ones available full text prior to this period.. The database includes citations to dissertations from 1861 to those accepted last semester. Citations for dissertations and master's theses published from 1980 forward have abstracts. Some simple bibliographic citations are available for dissertations dating from 1637.

Electronic Siku Quanshu

East Asian Library public computers only. Complete contents, in full text and image, of the 3460+ titles of the Wenyuange edition of the Siku Quanshu (1782), with 800 million characters (183 CD ROMs). Includes also such large compilations as the Quan Tang shi, Zizhi tongjian, Xu zizhi tongjian changbian, Wenxuan, Peiwen yunfu, Taiping yulan or the 25 Histories. Fojiao Jingdian ku (Buddhist Classics Database)

The Buddhist Classics Database gives full-text access to collections of Buddhist scriptures. As with other Erudition databases the scans of the original scriptures can be viewed side-by-side with the machine readable text. The first installment of the database includes the Qisha Song Tripitaka 宋碛砂藏 and the Zhaocheng Jin Tripitaka 金赵城藏.

The database records information on all Jinshi degree holders throughout Chinese history and provides information about their regional and ancestral origin. Lidai shiwenji zongku: Ming qian, Ming, Qing shang, Qing xia

The Lidai shiwenji zongku consists of the collected poetry writings of individuals. Currently Princeton users have access to 8,000 titles of pre-Ming, Ming, and Qing authors. Princeton Oracle Bone Collection in the China Academic Digital Associative Library (CADAL)

The Princeton Oracle Bones collection (119 pieces), relatively small, is one of several collections assembled by missionary Dr. Frank Herring Chalfant. The oracle bones have been photographed using Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) technology, which enables the end-user to decide upon the angle from which an object is lighted. This allows making all of the carvings on the oracle bones clearly visible.

Shengjing shi bao (Shengjing Times) = 盛京時報

In 1906 this Japanese-owned Chinese newspaper was established in Fengtian (today’s Shenyang) by the Japanese journalist Nakajima Masao. It was the highest circulation Chinese language daily newspaper and the most important instrument of Japanese press influence in Manchuria and is a major news resource on events in North-East China. Not full-text searchable, can only be searched on the article title level, but indexes advertisements and images.1906-1944

Shenzhou ribao (The National Herald) = 神州日报

Established in Shanghai in 1907 this newspaper is among the first larger revolutionary newspaper published in China and was shortly among the most widely sold newspapers in Shanghai. The newspaper changed hands several times and was later acquired by Yuan Shikai. Its publication was interrupted between 1926 and 1937 and again between 1941 and 1945. Not full-text searchable, can only be searched on the article title level, but indexes advertisements and images.1907-1946

Sibu congkan

Fully searchable collection of 504 original and historical works (3134 volumes) published by the Commercial Press from 1919 to 1936. Original collection used photolithography, which resulted in better editions than the then-available typeset editions. Authoritative editions.

Full-text searchable database of documents and audio-visual resources covering the trials of World War II Japanese war criminals. The collection is published in stages. All documents will eventually be available in English, Chinese and Japanese. At this moment, some parts are available in English, but related books and documents are still largely in Chinese only. Translations of the Peking Gazette Online

English translations of official edicts and memorials from the Qing dynasty dating from Macartney Mission in 1793 to 1912. The translations are from contemporary English-language sources such as Indo Chinese Gleaner, the China Mail, or the North China Herald, and ultimately go back to items published in the Peking Gazette (Jing bao). 1799-1912

Xin Wen Bao (Sin Wan Po) = 新聞報

The newspaper was founded by the Belgian priest Frédéric-Vincent Lebbe in Tianjin. In 1937, it suspended publication until 1938, when it resumed in Kunming. In 1940 it relocated to Chongqing, and after the Second Sino-Japanese War, it resumed publishing in Tianjin in 1945, until its closure in January 1949. Yi shi bao (Social Welfare) = 益世报

The newspaper was founded by the Belgian priest Frédéric-Vincent Lebbe in Tianjin. In 1937, it suspended publication until 1938, when it resumed in Kunming. In 1940 it relocated to Chongqing, and after the Second Sino-Japanese War, it resumed publishing in Tianjin in 1945, until its closure in January 1949. Zhongguo di fang li shi wen xian shu ju ku (Chinese Historical Local Archives Database)

This database, published by Shanghai Jiaotong University Press, gives access to historical local resources (mostly in manuscript form). It includes contracts, private and company ledgers, examination documents, medical prescriptions, local theater and opera material, court records, letters, family records, etc. The manuscripts mostly originate from private collections in provinces of Jiangsu, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi. The material dates mainly from the Qing and Republican period, but there are also some Ming and PRC documents included.
