The beautiful watercolor by Alfred E. Chalon was said to be drawn from life as the four eminent dancers performed at Her Majesty's Theatre, London, on July12, 1845. The ballerinas are Carlotta Grisi, Marie Taglioni (center), Lucile Grahn, and Fanny Cerrito. A lithographed copy was published the following September, and it was destined to become one of the two most famous prints of the Romantic Ballet. And, the gathering of the four elegant dancers for a shared performance marked 1845 as the peak of the Romantic Ballet, as well. |
