Qualifying abbreviated Chinese names

Qualifying abbreviated Chinese names

According to RI22.18A, we should not qualify an abbreviated forename when the initials do not match the letters used in the full form. The rule isn't clear about how to treat situations which arise often with Chinese names which abbreviate the forename with two letters while the full form is one word.

In the absence of a specific directive from LC, we will not qualify names in this case.

Example:

100 1_ Li, X. D.
400 1_ Li, Xiangdong
670 __ High energy processes and phenomena in astrophysics, c2003:$bt.p. (X.D. Li) p. xi (Xiangdong Li)
