Series Checks in Voyager

Searching to see if we have a standing order for a series or serial involves both the Cataloging and Acquisitions modules. You must have both modules open and logged on using the same Operator ID.

1. In the Cataloging module, do a Non-Keyword Journal Title search. This search matches on title fields 245, 246 but not on series fields 4xx, 8xx. It will pick up serials and monographic series records only; it will not pick up bookset records.

If you find a match, go to step 2

If you do not find a match, try a Title(Bib) or a Keyword search. These will pick up booksets and monographic volumes of series as well as serials and monographic series records. Finding several matches to a monographic series searched as Title (Bib) might lead you to suspect that we have the series on standing order. However, if there are only records for individual volumes (as in the example below) and none for the series alone without a volume number, we do not have a standing order for the series.

2. If you locate a matching bibliographic record, check the holdings record to see if the volume in question has been added. If so, note down the Bibliographic record number and location and treat as a Have. If the volume has not been added, or if it is identifiable as a monographic series, go to step 3.
