Early notice records (ENRs)

ENRs can be identified by the fixed field coding EL/Enc lvl o and the absence of both a complete 670 sources found citation and references. An early notice record can be modified only by the contributing library (usually LC).

The practice of creating such brief records as a precursor to inputting the completed record has been discontinued at LC.

ENRs still remaining in the NAF should be reported to LC by the NACO coordinator, so that they can be upgraded or deleted.

  • Report early notice records to the NACO coordinator.Do not attempt to modify these records.
  • The heading is usually an acceptable AACR2 form and can be used.
