Recording the Call Number: Placement on Books

The location symbol-call number combination, or the call number alone, as appropriate, is recorded as follows:

    a. Centered and placed at the top of the largest empty space on the verso of the title page, or, if not enough empty space exists,
    b. at the bottom of the opposite page, leaving sufficient space for binding, that is, about
1 1/2 inches from the left edge of the page.

The location symbol, in parentheses, is recorded by the Order Division. The call number is recorded by the cataloger, immediately under the symbol.
