Virtual Reading Room

Access to a small portion of the collections housed in Special Collections is offered only in the reading room at the request of the donor or for reasons related to copyright or preservation, including collections that are only available digitally. Our virtual reading room (VRR) is another option for access should you not be able to visit the collections in person. The virtual reading room offers secure, limited access to digitized copies of collection materials through the finding aids database. The VRR does not allow downloading of the documents.

To inquire about access to the virtual reading room, please complete the Ask Us! form

  • Princeton University members will be able to use their NetID once access has been activated. Accounts are deactivated at the end of each semester.
  • Non-Princeton Researchers will need to request a guest account to obtain Princeton credentials which can be used to log into the finding aid for the requested collection. This account will remain active for 30 days. Renewals will be granted in 30 day increments, much like checking out a virtual library book. Guest accounts can be requested through the Ask Us! form.

Visit our Copyright, Credit and Citation Guidelines page for more information on using the collections beyond personal research.
