This book by the German printmaker and publisher Johann Ulrich Krauss contains reduced and reversed but otherwise faithful copies of the Grotto engravings made in France. The original French and Latin texts are supplemented by German translations. Krauss and his wife, the engraver Johanna Sibylla Küsel (ca. 1650–1717), produced several such sets of prints, which helped diffuse the French style of ornament throughout Germany and eastern Europe.
