Disability & Accessibility Services at Firestone Library

Services for Students, Faculty, and Staff

The University's Office of Disability Services works in conjunction with the Library to offer a range of support services for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors with disabilities. Questions regarding special assistance within the Library may be directed to Nick Reynolds or 609-258-9153.

Entering the Building

Access to Firestone Library is through the courtyard on campus next to the chapel. There are no stairs, and you will find push buttons to open the front doors. The doors are quite heavy and if you find you need assistance because the button does not work, please contact the Access Office at (609) 258-5737 and we will be happy to assist you.

Once you enter Firestone Library there is a turnstile. If you use a mobility device the public safety officer will hold the turnstile as you pass through.

Accessing the Physical Collection

If you need assistance retrieving books, please stop by the Circulation Desk and a member of the team will assist you. If you are a Princeton student, faculty, or staff member, you can use the book paging service available through the library catalog and items will be retrieved and delivered to the desk.

Assistive Technology

There is a magnifying reader on the first floor near the Information Desk.

Physical Space

Firestone Library offers a wide variety of seating options, including table seating, carrels, soft seating, and standing desks. Designated no-talking zones include the Trustee Reading Room on the first floor and the Elfers Reading Room on the third floor.

Elevators

Firestone Library has two elevators. They are located behind the central staircase, just beyond the Information Desk, adjacent to the faculty-authored books collection.

Restrooms

There are two gender-neutral restrooms in the lobby just to the right after entering the building. Both are wheelchair accessible. Likewise, there are restrooms on every floor of the library and each is equipped with a stall that will accommodate a wheelchair and doors that swing out. There are two additional gender-neutral restrooms on C-floor.

Dining

The Tiger Tea Room is located on the first floor. It offers cafe-style food such as sandwiches, salads, yogurt, fruit, and pastries as well as tea, coffee, and cold beverages. All food must be consumed in the Tiger Tea Room. Covered beverages are allowed elsewhere in the library.

Service Animals

Princeton University Libraries allow service animals that meet the university’s definition. If you are a student, staff, or faculty member, please contact the Office of Disability Services. If you are a visitor, please bring the proper documentation with you. The Library is not able to accommodate assistance animals, per university policy

Parking

The closest parking to Firestone Library is metered parking on Nassau St. These meters are monitored by the town of Princeton, not the university. If you have a handicap placard or license plate, you do not need to feed the meter or leave after the allotted time specified on the meter.

Princeton Transportation and Parking Services has additional information about parking on campus as well as maps of accessible paths and entrances.
