Emily Wild announced as 2022 Geoscience Information Society’s Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award Recipient
Emily C. Wild, the Chemistry, Geosciences and Environmental Studies Librarian at Princeton University Library (PUL), is the recipient of the 2022 Geoscience Information Society (GSIS) Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award. The award was announced by the GSIS and will be presented virtually at the GSIS Annual Business Meeting on November 3, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
As noted by colleague Lori Tschirhart, Assistant Director, STEM/Science at University of Michigan Library, Wild’s “career spans over 20 years as both hydrologist and librarian. These dual roles, together with her enthusiasm for sharing scientific information, have enabled her to make profound contributions to the geoscience profession.”
An active member of the society since joining in 2010, Wild has served as President, Vice-President and Past President for two terms (2019-2022 and 2013-2016). She joined the Geosciences Librarianship 101 team as an instructor in 2013. She has also been the Geonet moderator since 2018, where she shares materials (through workshops, webinars and other formats) to the scientific community.
Wild is delighted to be recognized by the GSIS and her colleagues. “I have really enjoyed participating in the activities of GSIS over the years and hope to continue for many years to come,” said Wild. “I am extremely grateful for the professional and personal relationships established within GSIS, which helped ease my career transition from government to academia.”
Wild earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geology from Hartwick College and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island, and worked as a hydrologist and librarian from 1996 to 2018 at U.S. Geological Survey. In her current position at PUL, her scholarly interests include library instruction; reference, citation and data management; raw and geospatial datasets; and physical and laboratory sampling methods.
The Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award award was established in 2005 to recognize and honor significant contributions to the geoscience information profession. Named for the late Mary B. Ansari, a past GSIS President and strong supporter of the Society, the award is presented at the annual meeting and is accompanied by a monetary gift and engraved plaque. More information about her life and career can be found at https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/rgj/name/mary-ansari-obituary?id=98.... Past awardees are listed on the Society’s website.
